Art tools. Re-readings

The exhibition project Art Tools. Re-readings aims to help define the concept of tool in contemporary art by approaching it from the notion of re-reading, which here should be understood as that what we read again, but which is not so much a revision but rather a questioning, again, of the medium itself. The intention is to locate ourselves on the fine line that separates art from an important number of social matters to which it turns to in search of a solid theoretical basis, of information, that may bridge fields of knowledge or which simply is used as a necessary motif for distancing itself from mere representation.

The approach of the project, as well as its aim, is as follows: is contemporary art, with its numerous contributions and confluences with areas, such as politics, social sciences, psychology, psychoanalysis or media... the catalyst, the suitable vehicle for better understanding contemporary society? Are the technological tools, quickly assimilated by art practice, the means to access this understanding? Can art and, therefore, culture, many times considered and stigmatised as the most visible and also the most superficial of social-political practice, that which may allow for finding collective and functional ways of understanding and communication?
